Wang blog: Links golf is tough!

July 19: Jeunghun Wang of Korea will make his second appearance at The Open this week. He admits that nerves got the better of him last year when he missed the cut but with more experience under his belt, he is ready to play his best at Royal Birkdale.
In this blog, Wang gives us his thoughts on the week ahead.
By Jeunghun Wang
I played three weeks on links course so I’m feeling good. I have a lot of experience playing on links courses so I hope to play well. I learned a lot in the last three weeks even though I missed all the cuts! It was a great experience for me so I think this will be a good week.
I learned from some of the players that you don’t always have to chip when you are outside the green. You can also putt from outside the green so that’s something which I have to learn and do.
The shots that you play on this course will be different as compared to other courses. If you land in a bunker, you need to play it slightly differently because the sand is different from Asia. Links course is very different from Asia and that’s why I struggled before.
I was so nervous at The Open last year. That was my first Major. I tried to play well and make cut but I was so nervous and put too much pressure on myself. That’s why I played bad. This year, I will just relax and enjoy playing in the tournament.
I will still feel a little bit nervous but not that much. I can play my own game because I’ve played in a few Majors already. It is also nice to have so many Koreans in the field this week. I’ve really enjoyed playing the practice rounds with them. I hope we all make the cut together.
I’ve not played well lately but as you know, there are always up-and-downs in golf. I’m not worried because I’m sure I will play well soon. Hopefully it will be this week!
Ends.
