April 23: Asian Tour member Wang Jeung-hun of Korea dominated the Mission Hills Haikou Open by cruising to a 10-shot victory on the PGA Tour China series last week.
The talented 18-year-old fired a six-under-par 66 for an amazing 23-under-par 265 to finish well ahead of China’s Zhang Xin-jun at the Mission Hills Golf Club’s Sandbelt Trails course.
“I am so happy to win the first event of PGA Tour China. I never thought I could win before I came here. I just tried my best to play every shot. I am very satisfied with a 10-stroke for the win. It builds my confidence for the next event,” said Wang.
The Korean, who earned a top-five results at the Solaire Open on the Asian Tour in the Philippines in March, sealed his victory after trading eight birdies against two bogeys.
Quincy Quek of Singapore settled for fifth position on 277 while Asian Tour graduate Ryan McCarthy of Australia was a further three shots back in tied eighth.
