Winning Edge - How to hole more putts

July 11: Reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit champion Thaworn Wiratchant is one of the best putters in the game. The veteran Thai star keeps his putting stroke very simple and benefits from hours of practice on the putting green. In this latest segment of Winning Edge, the 46-year-old Thaworn, who is a 15-time winner on the Asian Tour, talks us through his main thoughts to his putting technique.
Step 1
I always place the ball more towards my left feet as seen in this picture. As you can see, my hands and grip are also well behind the ball. Some golfers have the forward press technique but I feel most comfortable with this hands position as it allows me to control the putter head better.
Step 2
As you can see in this picture, when I stand over the ball, my eyes are looking straight down at my ball. If I drop a golf ball from my eye, it should land right on the ball on the green. This is to ensure that I am looking at the correct line of target where I want my putt to start on.
Step 3
The key to a consistent putting stroke is to ensure that you have a proper pendulum action. You will notice in this picture that my shoulder rotates slightly which is based on the length of putts and the head is kept very still.
Step 4
It is important to putt through the ball and ensure that it starts on the correct line which you have picked out. Sometimes, I have a tendency to create some sidespin in my putts which I feel gives me better control, especially for the shorter length putts.
