Wisut Takes Charge

Bandar Seri Begawan, July 31: Thailand?s Wisut Artjanawat began to make his move at the Brunei Open 2009 by posting a six-under-par 65 to take the morning lead on Friday.
Wisut?s two-day total of 10-under-par 132 has given him a two-shot lead over Philippine?s Jay Bayron who posted a 65 for a 134 total while Malaysia?s Shaaban Hussin is in third place on 135 with Australia's Marcus Both and Japan's Kodai Ichihara.
The Thai, who started his round in tied-11th, quickly stormed up the leaderboard by making his charge with six birdies in his opening front-nine to reach the turn in 10-under for the outright lead.
The 27-year-old Thai continued to hold on to his lead when he posted another birdie on the 11th. A closing bogey on the 18th however, spoilt his otherwise blemish-free card at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.
?It was another good round for me today and I hope that I can continue playing as well as what I?ve done for the past two days,? said Wisut.
Bayron also made a charge of his own by firing three successive birdies starting from the sixth to eighth to reach the turn in 32.
The Filipino then registered three more birdies on the 12th, 13th and 15th before dropping a shot on the 16th for his only bogey of the day.
He recovered quickly with another birdie on the 17th to reach home in 65 at the US$300,000 full field Asian Tour event.
?My ball striking and course management were excellent today. There were a couple of shots that I thought would have required two-putts but I managed to convert them in one,? said Bayron.
Meanwhile, Shaaban also had a round to remember. Starting the day in tied-11th, Shaaban mixed six birdies against two bogeys to mark one of his strongest starts on the Asian Tour.
?I played very well today and I?m definitely very happy to see my name at the top,? said Shaaban.
The Malaysian could have increased his lead if not for the distraction of seeing his name among the leaders after the turn.
?I actually got to nine-under after 13 holes. But at the 15th and 16th, I lost my focus with bogeys on the 17th and 18th after seeing my name on top of the leaderboard. It?s not every day that I get to see my name on the leaderboard,? said Shaaban whose best result on the Asian Tour was a tied-58th finish at the Maybank Malaysian Open.

Ends.
