Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters: The Contenders

June 19: The RM1.2 million (approximately US$400,000) Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters kicks off this week at the challenging Seri Selangor Golf Club. AsianTour.com takes a look at the big guns who are likely to contend this week.
Scott Hend (Aus)
Hend won his third Asian Tour at the Chiangmai Golf Classic presented by PTT in March. His big-hitting game will give him an advantage at the challenging Seri Selangor Golf Club where he finished fourth in 2010. He is the highest ranked player in this week’s elite field.
Order of Merit: 3rd
Anirban Lahiri (Ind)
Lahiri, who won his third Asian Tour title on home soil earlier this year, will be eager to land his first victory outside of India at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters.  He rates the Seri Selangor Golf Club as one of the toughest courses on the Asian Tour and will be eager to better his tied eighth result in the 2010 edition.

Order of Merit: 10th
Siddikur (Ban)
Siddikur is the first Bangladeshi to play and win on the Asian Tour. He will be hoping to land his second Asian Tour title after coming close on numerous occasions. He holds a solid track record at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters where he has yet to finish outside the top-five since 2011.
Order of Merit: 11th
Arnond Vongvanij (Tha)
Arnond finished second at the Queen’s Cup on home soil last week. This will be the first time he will be playing at the Seri Selangor Golf Club and is hoping a new putter will guide him to a second Asian Tour victory. The pint-sized Thai is regarded as one of the upcoming stars on the Asian Tour.
Order of Merit: 16th
Angelo Que (Phi)
Que is a three-time Asian Tour winner but not since 2010 when he won the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters. He has two top-five finishes so far this year and is on a mission to win his fourth title on the region’s premier Tour. Known as of one the most jovial golfers on the Asian Tour, Que is expected to shine again this week.
Order of Merit: 30th
Thaworn Wiratchant (Tha)
Defending champion Thaworn will be hoping to recover from a slow start in 2013 at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters where he won his 14th Asian Tour title last year. His victory, including two other triumphs, earned him the Order of Merit crown for the second time in his career.

Shaaban Hussin (Mas)
Shaaban is coming into this week’s Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters in fine form. He won an event on home soil on Saturday and will carry his confidence into the event which is played on his home course at the Seri Selangor Golf Club.
