Yang aims to restore past glory #IM15

Jakarta, April 21: Korea’s Y.E. Yang, Asia’s first Major winner, is determined to get his career back on track starting with a commanding performance at the US$750,000 CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters which starts on Thursday.
Playing for the first time at Indonesia’s premier golf tournament, the 43-year-old is unequivocal in the assessment of his form since he hit dizzy heights with his win at the PGA Championship in 2009.
“Frankly my form has been very erratic since I won the PGA Championship. But that’s golf, there are ups and downs,” said Yang.
The Korean has freefall in the world rankings where he is now in 468th place.
While it may be a far cry from the days where he was once ranked as high as 26th in 2010, the Asian Tour honorary member knows he can find success again if his tied-fourth finish in China last week is any indication of his resurgence.

“But I’m playing better this year. I did well last week. The confidence’s returning and that’s always important in golf.
“I expect to put myself into contention again this week and we’ll see what happens,” said Yang of his desire to restore parity at the top.
The Korean is aware of the stiff challenges ahead at the Indonesian showpiece as he will be tested by the likes of former world number one Lee Westwood of England, Denamrks Thomas Bjorn as well as the region’s best players from the Asian Tour.
“The field’s is strong this week but I’m in good form now and we’ll see what happens on Sunday,” said Yang.
Sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour of Indonesia, the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters Presented by Enjoy Jakarta Golf will feature 24 Indonesian golfers, 20 professionals from the PGA Tour of Indonesia and four of Indonesia’s top amateurs who will compete in the 150 player field over 72 holes of individual stroke play.
