September 11: The Asian Tour heads to the US$500,000 Yeangder Tournament Players Championship this week where an elite cast of Asian Tour stars aim to dethrone Gaganjeet Bhullar of India. AsianTour.com takes a look at the big guns who are likely to contend this week.
Gaganjeet Bhullar (Ind)
He sensationally won the Yeangder TPC last year by one-shot and went on to win his fourth Asian Tour title at the Venetian Macau Open. The hugely talented Indian has one runner-up finish this year but is looking to add more titles to his colourful resume. Currently ranked second on the Order of Merit, he will also need to maintain his position on the Merit list to qualify for the HSBC Champions in China in October.
Order of Merit: 2nd
Lin Wen-tang (Tpe)
Lin Wen-tang of Chinese Taipei Lin Wen-tang of Chinese Taipei
Lin is one of the most popular golfers in Chinese Taipei. He ended his title drought on the Asian Tour when he won the Solaire Open in the Philippines in April. It was his sixth Asian Tour title which provided Lin with a much needed confidence boost. He is eager to win the Yeangder TPC after finishing fourth in the 2011 and 2012 editions.
Order of Merit: 32nd
Baek Seuk-hyun (Kor)
Baek will continue his search for a maiden Asian Tour title at the Yeangder TPC. He came close to winning the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters in June but was defeated by his best friend, Pariya Junhasavasdikul of Thailand. He is expected to shine again this week after finishing tied ninth in last year’s edition.
Order of Merit: 6th
Anirban Lahiri (Ind)
Lahiri is a three-time Asian Tour winner but without a win outside of India. He has enjoyed a solid season so far with one victory and two top-10s including a runner-up result at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters in June. He got off to a great start at the Omega European Masters last week before settling for tied 57th. He expected to shine again at the Yeangder TPC.
Order of Merit:  7th
Berry Henson (Usa)
Henson will aim to win a long-awaited second Asian Tour title this week. He has been struggling with a cold putter but hopes to turn the corner at the Yeangder TPC. He has yet to miss a single cut on the Asian Tour so far this season and will be one of the hot favourites to win.
Order of Merit: 10th
Angelo Que of Philippines Angelo Que of Philippines
Angelo Que (Phi)
It will be a big week for Que, who will need a victory or a solid finish this week to cement his spot at the ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf in November. The Filipino placed tied 22nd in Switzerland last week and is determined to translate two top-five finishes this season into a victory at the Yeangder TPC.
Order of Merit: 16th
Lu Wei-chih (Tpe)
Lu did not defend his title last year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. After taking almost a year to recover from the surgery, Lu will make a long-awaited return on the Asian Tour at the Yeangder TPC. It will be a fairy-tale ending for Lu if he secures his fourth Asian Tour title at the Yeangder TPC.
Ends.
