Shaun Norris (Rsa) Final Round 68 (-4), Total 204 (-12)
Words can’t describe how I feel with this win. I’ve been playing well as of late. I’ve been positive with my game. I wanted to win something in Asia so this is a dream come true. We always try to better ourselves in golf. The goal is to travel the world and compete against other players.
The quality on the Asian Tour is phenomenal. The players are so good. For me to accomplish what I have done is a dream come true.
I did have a number. I was thinking one or two less from my second round score but the conditions didn’t allow that. The swirling winds and the rain made it tougher out there. I’m very happy with 12-under.
I always joke with my family and friends that I play better in the worst conditions. I think it makes me concentrate more. I probably focus more and pull it off better. I only realised the scoreboard on the 17th hole but that didn’t worry me.
I stuck to my game plan and I did what I needed to do. I was a little bit nervous heading into 18 but I didn’t hit any bad shots there.
I wanted to play at the UBS Hong Kong Open this year because I wanted to bring my father, who grew up in Hong Kong for a bit. I was down the pecking order at the start of the week but now I don’t have to worry about it! I can tell my daddy to come visit me.
This win changes my schedule. Now I can pick and choose what tournament I want to play in.
I’ve been battling in the game for a while now. I’ve been seeing coaches to help my game out. But about two years ago, I decided to go back to my roots. Try to feel like I’m enjoying the game again. Play like how I did when I was a kid. Don’t worry about fidgeting with the swing. Just get up and hit the ball and trust yourself.
Miguel Tabuena (Phi) Final Round 73 (+1), Total 206 (-10)
How many times do I have to finish second? It is frustrating but I’m still happy with the way I played. I stayed committed to my shots so that’s a win for me already. There will be a win for me in the future. I’m still proud of myself.
I only started monitoring the scores on the back nine. I knew people were making a move but I didn’t know that Shaun was on -13. At the start of the 12th hole, I started forcing some shots.
The bigger goal today was to win and have a chance to qualify for the CIMB Classic but finishing second is not bad as well. It should secure my Asian Tour card for next year. I’m still proud of myself but I wished things were a bit different.
