Picked up the game when he was nine, following his father, who is Japanese, to the driving range. As he was born in the Philippines, Artemio has maintained dual citizenship. He is one of the most jovial golfers on Tour.

Career Highlights

  1. Artemio claimed a maiden Asian Tour victory at the 2007 Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia, following up on his first top-10 at the Motorola International Bintan in Indonesia and tied 11th in the Philippine Open
  2. He went on to produce a solid season in 2008 which was highlighted by a maiden Major appearance at the US Open
  3. Rubbing shoulders with the world’s best players proved to be the right tonic to lift his season as he had started the year poorly with five missed cuts and one disqualification
  4. In the second half of the season, Artemio was in the money in his last 14 events, posting top-10s at the Hero Honda Indian Open and Hana Bank Vietnam Masters
  5. He also registered top-20s at four other events to end the year in 47th place on the Order of Merit
  6. Artemio fell victim to a poor putting spell in 2009 and failed to retain his Tour card after finishing 70th on the Order of Merit
  7. He managed a tied fifth finish at the Indonesia President Invitational but subsequently triumphed in the 2010 Asian Tour Qualifying School
  8. He registered four top-20s in 2010
  9. In 2011, he posted one top-25 at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters
  10. Artemio was highly rated during his amateur days where won the Philippine Amateur Open as a 16-year-old and represented the Philippines national team in 1999 and 2000 before giving up the game briefly
  11. Upon the encouragement from his country’s greatest player Frankie Minoza, Artemio rededicated himself to the game and played for the national side again in 2004 and 2005 before turning professional at the end of the year
  12. Artemio caddied for Minoza for a full season in 2003 in Japan during his sabbatical
  13. Artemio said: "I enjoyed the experience, I found out why he's the best Filipino golfer
  14. The way he plays, the way he thinks, his attitude on the golf course, everything was spot on
  15. He influenced me to start playing golf again and he's my mentor."
