Muniyappa comes from humble beginnings. He worked as a forecaddie at the age of seven at the Karnataka Golf Association golf course and developed his swing by watching club members. He never played as an amateur and did not enjoy the luxury of working with a coach. Says he prefers to plays in tournaments than practice.

Career Highlights

  1. Muniyappa emerged as the latest Indian to win on the Asian Tour when he claimed a popular victory at the 2009 Hero Honda Indian Open in his rookie season
  2. Muniyappa was pushed to the limit by Korea’s Lee Sung as they battled in a play-off after the duo finished tied on 12-under-par 276 in regulation play
  3. But the Indian had the final say when he sank his 10 foot putt for birdie on the par five 18th hole to bag his maiden title on home soil
  4. Also finished top-15 at the Brunei Open and Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters to end the year in 10th place on the Order of Merit and was named Rookie of the Year
  5. Struggled in 2010 where he conceded that he was trying too hard to improve by making swing changes
  6. He has struggled with a back injury in recent seasons.
