Biography

Rick said he started watching Greg Norman on television when he was three and joined the local club, Hartfield Country Club when he was nine. Credits his parents, Robert and Julie for his success as “everything they earned, they sacrificed it and put it into my amateur career.” Was a member of the Australian Institute of Sports from 2004 to 2006. Hobbies include watching sports, hanging out with friends and supporting Hawthorn Hawks in Aussie Rules.

Career Highlights

  1. Rick secured his second win on the Asian Tour by overhauling Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters with a closing 63 in 2009
  2. It was a welcome victory as he had missed eight cuts in 10 starts at the front half of the year
  3. Posted two other top-10s at the Queen’s Cup in Thailand and Macau Open
  4. Capped the year by earning his European Tour card, holing a long birdie putt at the last hole to seal the final ticket at Qualifying School
  5. In 2008, he made a winning debut at the Brunei Open
  6. He holed a bunker shot for birdie and defeated Chinese Taipei veteran Lu Wen-teh in the first play-off hole to emerge victorious
  7. Also posted a top-10 at the Bangkok Airways Open
  8. He won the New South Wales Open title on home soil as an amateur in 2006 and was paired with Greg Norman in the third round at the Australian Open where he earned the admiration of the golf legend for his poise and composure
  9. In 2007, he qualified for the US Amateur Championship and reached the quarter-finals of the British Amateur
  10. In the same year, he won the Scratch Players Amateur in the United States and was also the 2001 World Junior Champion and Australian Junior Champion
  11. He was a member of the Australian national team in 2002 and established himself as one of the finest amateurs in the country by winning the South Australian Invitational, Dunes Medal and Federal Amateur
  12. He was also a member of the winning Australian teams at the Trans-Tasman Cup, Four Nations Cup and Asia-Pacific Teams Championship.
