Rory picked up the game at the age of five before heading to United States where he joined the local junior circuit. He studied at the University of California before deciding to turn professional in 2008. He won one amateur title in United States and was the seventh ranked amateur in the world before deciding to turn. In 2006, he won the High School State Championship and the Regional High School Championship in California and became the second player after Tiger Woods to win both titles in the same year. His father Tommy caddies regularly for Rory.

Career Highlights

  1. Rory is the first Indonesian to earn playing rights on the Asian Tour when he finished in the top-40 in the 2009 Qualifying School in Thailand
  2. His best finish of the season was a tied ninth placing at the SAIL Open in India but he struggled midway through the season after making new swing changes
  3. He missed six consecutive cuts early in the 2010 season but turned his year around after making the weekend rounds at the Handa Singapore Classic
  4. He credited his return to form to coach Andrew Argus, who changed his grip
  5. It worked wonders for him as he notched a tied 13th placing at the King’s Cup in Thailand followed by a tied 19th and 12th placing at the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open and season-ending Black Mountain Masters in Thailand respectively
  6. In 2013, his tied-12th finish at the Yeangder TPC was his best result in nine starts.
