Biography

Thaworn has an unorthodox swing with his hands moving directly above his head at the top of the backswing. He also has a long extended, much photographed, follow through. Said he did not see the need to change his golf swing as "it worked well for me during my amateur days and it works now." A short game wizard, thanks to countless of hours at the practice green. The veteran golfer is a lover of fast cars. Picked up the game at the Army Golf Club in Bangkok where he parents used to work. His golfing attire often has a black tinge, saying it is his lucky colour.

Career Highlights

  1. Thaworn sealed his place in Asian Tour history by becoming the oldest Order of Merit champion at the age of 45 years and 354 days in 2012 following three victories at the Queen's Cup, Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters and Hero Indian Open
  2. He also holds the most victories in Asia with 18 titles
  3. Swept the Players’ Player of the Year and Special Achievement Awards along with the Birdie Leader award in 2012
  4. In 2014, he increased his winning tally to 18 titles following victories at the Queen's Cup and King’s Cup in Thailand
  5. Joked that he was still a “young boy”
  6. Also became the first player to hit 400 Asian Tour appearances in 2015
  7. Amongst his wins, his success at the 2009 Macau Open was memorable as he won by a massive six shots
  8. In 2005, the Thai enjoyed a stellar year when he won four times, the most wins by a player in a single season, en route to winning the Order of Merit for the first time in his career.He also became the first player to surpass the US$500,000 mark for earnings in a season when he amassed a total of US$510,122
  9. Thaworn also claimed his first European Tour co-sanctioned title by winning the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open in 2005
  10. He was later voted the 2005 Players' Player of the Year
  11. He played in his first Major at the British Open at Royal Liverpool in 2006, finishing a creditable 31st after forcing his way into the top-10 at the halfway stage
  12. Will also be remembered for his remarkable 2001 season, when not having won in five years, he triumphed in successive tournaments at the Singapore Open and the Volvo Masters of Malaysia.
